Frequently Asked Questions

  • Biofield Tuning is a gentle sound-based practice that uses tuning forks in the body’s energy field to support balance, coherence, and restoration. Through resonance, areas of congestion or “noise” in the biofield are gently brought back into harmony, allowing the body’s natural organizing intelligence to restore flow and ease.

As the field becomes more coherent, people often experience a felt sense of returning to center—greater calm, clarity, and wholeness. Many report deep relaxation, a softening of long-held stress patterns, and a renewed sense of inner steadiness.

This work is based on the understanding that the human biofield holds the imprint of lived experience. Moments of strain, shock, or unresolved stress can create dissonance in the field, which over time may influence how the body feels and responds. The tuning forks offer a consistent, neutral frequency that supports the field in re-organizing itself.

Much like the body knows how to heal a cut without conscious effort, it also knows how to re-establish balance when given the right conditions. Biofield Tuning provides those conditions—inviting the nervous system to settle, the mind to quiet, and the body to remember its innate capacity for regulation and ease.

Here is a short video I put together to help you learn more about Biofield Tuning!

  • During a Biofield Tuning session, specially designed tuning forks are used to gently locate areas of tension, congestion, or dissonance in the body’s energy field. These areas often reflect stress patterns formed through lived experiences, prolonged strain, or inherited familial dynamics that the body has learned to carry.

As these areas are brought into awareness through sound, the nervous system is given an opportunity to settle and reorganize. When unresolved stress patterns are supported in releasing, their influence on present-day physical sensations, emotional responses, and mental habits can begin to soften.

Rather than forcing change, a tuning session supports the body’s natural capacity for regulation and coherence. Many people experience a greater sense of ease, clarity, and connection to themselves—feeling more grounded, present, and aligned.

In this way, Biofield Tuning is not about fixing what is broken, but about creating the conditions for your system to return to balance, allowing more of your authentic self to emerge naturally.

  • Sound balancing with tuning forks—using either the Biofield Tuning or SomaEnergetics® method—is offered as a supportive, non-medical practice. Many people report feeling less stressed and more at ease, with an improved sense of overall well-being.

This work may also support the gentle release of long-held emotional patterns and limiting beliefs, helping clients feel more present, open, and responsive in daily life. As these patterns soften, people often experience greater clarity, resilience, and ease.

Biofield Tuning can be a helpful complement to medical or psychological care, supporting the body’s natural capacity for regulation. It is not intended to replace medical or mental health treatment.

  • Biofield Tuning is a gentle, supportive practice, but it may not be appropriate for everyone. Sessions are not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, have a pacemaker or other implanted medical device, have serious heart conditions, advanced cancer, or complex medical illness, or who have experienced a recent concussion (within the past six months). This work should also be avoided if your physician or mental health provider has advised against sound-based or energy-based modalities.

There is limited research on the effects of Biofield Tuning for individuals with cancer. Early observations have primarily shown increased fatigue rather than therapeutic benefit, and this work is not intended for cancer treatment. In the United States, cancer care must be provided through medically approved treatment pathways, and I am not trained to work with cancer-related conditions.

    CAUTIONS and GUIDANCE

  • There is no required number of Biofield Tuning sessions. Many people find a single session meaningful and supportive on its own. From there, you’re invited to notice how your body responds and decide what feels right for you.

Some clients choose a short series of sessions to support deeper settling and integration over time, while others schedule sessions occasionally or only when they feel called. There is no set frequency or expectation.

This work is not about doing more—it’s about listening more closely. You are always the best guide in determining whether and how often Biofield Tuning is supportive for you.

  • Based on currently accepted scientific models, there is not yet a clear explanation for how distance Biofield Tuning works. What can be shared is how it is practiced and what has been consistently observed.

In a remote session, the client and practitioner are in separate locations and connect by phone or Zoom. The session is conducted much like an in-person appointment, with the shared intention that the client’s body is represented on the treatment table. Practitioners consistently observe the same patterns of sound, resonance, and response that appear during in-person sessions, and clients often report similar experiences of relaxation, awareness, or internal shift.

Biofield Tuning founder Eileen McKusick initially questioned whether distance sessions were possible. After being encouraged by physician Dr. Karl Maret to test the approach, they conducted an early experiment with Dr. Maret resting on a table in California while Eileen worked remotely from Vermont. Both reported noticeable responses during the session, which led to further testing.

Subsequent experiments suggested that the information present in the biofield appears consistent regardless of physical distance. While the mechanism behind this is not fully understood, these observations prompted the continued use of remote sessions within the Biofield Tuning community.

Remote sessions are offered as a supportive, non-medical practice. As with in-person work, clients are encouraged to notice their own experience and decide whether this approach feels beneficial for them.

To explore theoretical perspectives related to this phenomenon, see the FAQ: What is the aether?

  • Aether is a term used to describe an underlying field of connection that some traditions believe exists throughout all of life. While not part of modern scientific language, similar ideas appear in many cultures and theories that explore how information or influence may not be limited by physical distance.

One way to understand this is through awareness. You can shift your attention from one part of your body to another instantly, without it traveling through space. In a similar way, remote Biofield Tuning uses focused attention and sound to work with the body’s energy field, even when practitioner and client are in different locations.

This idea is offered as a conceptual way of thinking about distance work, not as a scientific explanation.

  • Many clients report that remote sessions feel just as supportive as in-person work. While the experience may differ from person to person, people often notice clear bodily sensations during distance sessions and a sense of lightness, calm, or ease afterward.

Remote sessions are offered with the same care and intention as in-person sessions, and clients are encouraged to notice their own experience and decide what feels most supportive for them.

  • The biofield is a term used to describe the subtle electromagnetic field associated with living systems. It extends around and through the physical body. Some people refer to this field as an aura, while various Eastern traditions describe similar concepts using terms such as ki, chi, or prana.

  • Most people experience Biofield Tuning as deeply relaxing. During an in-person session, you’ll lie comfortably on a massage table, fully clothed with shoes removed, while tuning forks are used on and around the body. For remote sessions, you can sit or lie comfortably in your own space, free from interruptions.

Using sound and resonance, we gently locate areas of tension or dissonance in the biofield—the body’s subtle energy field—and support those areas in returning to balance. When an area responds and settles, the sound naturally harmonizes.

You are always in charge of how much or how little conversation happens during a session. At times we may briefly explore what is being observed through sound, but you’re never required to share personal details. Many people prefer to rest quietly and simply notice how their body, thoughts, or emotions respond.

Experiences vary. Some people notice sensations such as warmth, tingling, or a sense of movement; others feel very little or drift into sleep. Emotions may arise, but they often pass gently. Sessions typically last about 60 minutes.

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to relax, such as a t-shirt and soft pants. For in-person sessions, you’ll be asked to remove your shoes. Staying well hydrated before your session is also helpful.

There’s nothing special you need to do beyond arriving as you are. You don’t need to believe in anything or have a particular goal. Simply come with a sense of curiosity and allow yourself to rest and notice how your body responds.

  • After a session, many people feel relaxed and clear. On occasion, the body may continue processing the work, which can show up as needing extra sleep, emotional release, or a general sense of recalibration. This is usually brief and resolves on its own.

Simple self-care such as drinking water, grounding outdoors, gentle movement, or a 20–30 minute salt bath or foot soak can support integration.

If possible, schedule time after your session for you. Walk outside, hug a tree, journal, go to a café—whatever stirs your heart. Remain curious and open to the experiences you may have. Be gentle and kind to yourself.

    Post Session Care tips

  • Sessions may be cancelled or rescheduled at no charge up to 24 hours before the scheduled appointment using the booking system. Cancellations made within 24 hours, or missed appointments, are charged at the full session rate unless the time is filled by another client.

Sessions are paid in part or in full in advance at the time of booking. Any transaction fees incurred from cancelled sessions are non-refundable.

  • You don’t need to believe in anything for Biofield Tuning to be useful. This work does not rely on suggestion, belief, or visualization. It uses sound and vibration—well-understood physical phenomena—to interact with the body and nervous system.

Many people come simply to rest, notice what happens, and see how their body responds. Some experience deep relaxation or a quieting of mental noise; others notice subtle shifts over time. Skepticism is welcome here—curiosity is enough.

Biofield Tuning is offered as a supportive, non-medical practice and can be used alongside medical or mental health care.
